About Dr. Kuehl
Dr. Kuehl is an associate professor in shelter medicine, and the first remote faculty for the college, based at Seattle Humane Society in Bellevue, Washington.
At the shelter she guides veterinary students through an average of 30 surgical procedures per student over a two week period. During the rotation, she supervises students through several veterinary outreach clinics where students have the chance to build technical skills, communication and confidence while working with marginalized community members who struggle to access veterinary care for their companions.
The One Health Clinic is one of these experiences and is a partnership with the University of Washington’s Center for One Health Research and Neighborcare Health and WSU. Students provide veterinary care and work alongside other professional students in medicine, social work, and public health to gain a fuller understanding of the relationships between human and animal health and care for the entire family unit.
Dr. Kuehl’s goal is to bring other providers in the Seattle area together to create more effective and streamlined access to care for families in need. She has also been involved with creation of a One Health Clinic toolkit for other communities to implement their own integrated One Health care teams.
